Social Program

Excursions
Wednesday June 28 (afternoon)

  • Excursion to the largest storm barrier in the world and the city of Middelburg: We will leave Delft at 12.30pm to reach the province of Zeeland, having lunch on the bus. Around 2.00pm we will arrive at the largest storm surge barrier in the world, which protects the hinterland against floods. First we will have a short boat tour in the natural world of the Eastern Scheldt: sometimes seals and harbor porpoises are spotted. Then we will hear the “extreme-value story” behind this immense and impressive structure and we will visit it from inside. Finally we drive to the old city of Middelburg, the small but beautiful capital of Zeeland, where we will have a guided city tour. We will see among others the Abbey complex and the market square with the Gothic town hall. After a dinner in Middelburg until about 8.00 pm, we will be back in Delft around 9.30pm. Costs 35 euro, dinner not included.
  • Excursion to Amsterdam: As an alternative it is easy to visit Amsterdam on your own (we can also help in forming groups). With more than 800 years of history to discover, Amsterdam is a city that is rich in tourist attractions. From ancient churches to magnificent museums (including the world-renowned Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum), from secret courtyards to quaint cobbled streets, and, of course, the city's world-famous canal houses, waterways and bridges, there is a lot to see and to experience in Amsterdam.

Social Dinner

The 4-course dinner at “
De Schaapskooi” will begin at 6.30 pm and costs €50, drinks included.
