Music

On 22 September 2017 pianist Neville Schaefer and I played a set of 6 pieces at the retirement party of my colleague Paul Janssen in Hasselt.
Some of these pieces were later also played on the cello at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, where they were selected by (then still) Prince Charles (as I am told by my British family). Not that it matters, but I just mention this as a curiosity.

The programme is discussed in: Piet Groeneboom's blog

The original plan was that Paul Janssen's Belgian colleague Ingrid van Keilegom and I would play a transcription for two violins of Mozart's piano sonata no. 11 in A major, with the famous "Rondo alla Turca".
Annoesjka Cabo and I played this transcription at an evening "Music played by mathematicians for mathematicians" at the University of Amsterdam in the eighties of the preceding century. But Ingrid was too busy, so there was a change of plan.
Here is a clip of a rehearsal of Saskia Viersen and myself in preparation for this event:

Here is Kreisler's "Liebesleid", played by Hans de Korver (piano) and myself (violin), transferred from an old minidisc recording (2004?), using Focusrite.
